Convergence sometimes demands notice and today is one of those days.

These are the facts that came together.>The poverty rate has risen dramatically.<–> Former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan recommends extending the tax cuts for the rich. <–> The Senate passes the Small Business assistance bill, long held up by Republicans.>–<Senator Bernie Sanders makes the correct connection<–>To quote from the Senator’s news release>:

The 43.5 million Americans were living in poverty in 2009 was a record representing over 14 percent of Americans. Since 2000, nearly 12 million Americans have slipped out of the middle class and into poverty. Over 20 million more Americans were living in poverty in 2009 than in 1973.

These are the times that demanded Republicans show some sense and sensitivity, and two lawmakers did just that today.  A couple of senators named George, (Voinvich, R-OH and LeMieux, R-FL ) voted to end cloture, enabling the passage of the Small Business bill.  Let us hope others will converge when we need themin a few weeks, to fix the disastrous Bush tax cuts expiring at the end of the year.
